Companion ... then, what?

I am a casual kind of guy. I am emotionally and financially secure. I finished two careers which left me able to live financially independently. While I finished my degree and some graduate work in computer science nearly 30 years ago, I returned to university two years ago to explore an entirely different field: theater. I enjoy playing piano; woodworking; going to the theater; attending concerts; and generally lounging around with someone interesting. I'm not very gregarious. I don't like sports bars (and not because I have little interest in sports) or noisy crowds. I'm a sensitive person and warm up to someone who wants to exchange feelings and engage in intimate conversation. I've been told I don't ask enough questions; I just figure if you wish to divulge information you would voluntarily. I enjoy traveling and have the time and resources to pursue it.

I'm frank and honest about how I feel. Life's too short to pretend..

I'm looking for someone who is ready to live, preferably retired, but not too tired. Ready to throw stuff in a suitcase and go somewhere; either overnight or for a week. Someone to care FOR, not to take care OF.

"Taste in music???!!!" Is it really that important? Everyone has their own tastes. You may not like Tex-Mex; I may not like Sushi. If we're not willing to try the other's taste; we can at least respect it. I like Marcia Ball, Wagner; classic rock; most classical before 1900; I'm a Leon Redbone groupie. I even like Josh Groban type music, but how many times can you hear so many people sing their version of "You lift me up?"

What makes me unique? I consider myself kind of a renaissance man. Some people can swish from the three-point zone (did I get that right?), but can't calculate the tip on their restaurant bill with their shoes off. I don't know which end of a hockey stick to hold, but can operate any number of power tools; identify a piece of classical music by period; identify most of the famous artists; learning to plant a garden; play a couple musical instruments; know the difference between a claret and a bordeaux (they are the same); detest American beer and love single malt scotch; can cook everything from dead meat on a grille to a puff pastry; and don a backpack making my own way for weeks in a foreign country; learning the language as I go.

Hobbies? Definitely not landscaping. I enjoy having my own plot of ground, but detest maintaining it. I enjoy tearing out walls and such in my home and renovating/decorating it. I have a computer network (my second career) in my home and, as frustrating as it is, I enjoy tinkering with it. Right now, school is occupying a lot of my free time and, while it doesn't have to, I do it because I enjoy it.

By the way, my first career was in the Navy (23 years). They had me living in Washington, DC, area for four years, London for three years, Florida for a couple years, the Adriatic coast of Italy for three years, Except for two years back in England in the 80s, I stayed in Boston for 23 years from'81 to '04. I made vacation trips back to England, Italy, Germany. In '03, I spent 10 days in Prague. In '04, I spent 10 days in Poland. in 07, I wandered on my own through Germany, Austria, and Salzburg for a couple weeks. In '11, I rented a cottage in Provence with a friend for a month. In '12, I wandered through Spain on my own for three weeks. In '13, a group of ten of us spent two weeks wandering through Bucharest, Transylvania and the Carpathians, Budapest, and Prague. I've been on three Caribbean cruises and several trips through the U.S.

Kids? I have a daughter; she is 38. I would hope your "kids" have moved on with their lives.
